Lyra Health is looking for a Collections Specialist to assist the Billing Operations Team to collect payments and resolve account balances for health plan claims. The Collections Specialist will be responsible for collecting payments from patients and third-party payers. They will work with other members of the Billing Operations Team to create and optimize tools/processes related to collections, recovery of bad debt and claims reconciliation.


  • Track information about patient payment accounts and status of collection efforts
  • Work directly with patients to resolve billing issues
  • Collecting and recording patient responsibility for healthcare services
  • Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing timeframes
  • Work with insurance companies to resolve payment discrepancies
  • Work with the Billing Operations team on improving existing workflows and implementing new processes
  • Work with Lyra’s Client Support team to smoothly coordinate communication and manage various payment problems
  • Work with health plan partners to manage and process claims
  • Collaborate with technical teams to identify bugs and improve the client and provider experiences
  • Collaborate with other members of the Billing Operations team on short-term projects


  • 2+ years experience in a medical patient-facing role (e.g. in a clinic, outpatient practice or inpatient setting)
  • Prior experience with medical billing or collections required
  • Strong customer service skills, problem solving and regarding payment discrepancies
  • Experience with Zendesk, Salesforce, and/or JIRA a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills-both verbal and written, with an emphasis on quickly gaining trust
  • Passionate about improving mental health care and excited by our mission of leveraging technology to scale access to evidence-based therapies
  • Ability to innovate and creatively solve problems in a highly collaborative manner
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at a time and successfully work on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Prior experience working in a technology environment a plus

This role is based in Burlingame, CA and will be hybrid.
