About the Role
You will be a critical team member in Lyra’s growing legal team to support internal stakeholders in fulfilling Lyra’s mission to bring mental and emotional health solutions to large employers across the country and internationally. This is a full-time role that can be located in the headquarters in SF Bay Area (Burlingame, California), or remote and will report to Lyra’s General Counsel.  You will be expected to work independently in managing questions around a broad scope of privacy issues, international regulatory issues, conducting legal research, counseling internal stakeholders to resolve questions, and leading projects to support Lyra’s growth. 
The ideal candidate will be experienced in reviewing, analyzing and providing advice on international regulations in privacy and other areas, including healthcare, as well as an attorney with a proactive nature in identifying issues and presenting solutions and someone who is searching for a collaborative environment brimming with novel questions. The legal team plays an essential role at the company, responding and managing all legal questions, and candidates with all around experience are welcome to help support the various needs of the company.


  • Support Lyra’s product expansion to international jurisdictions, with a focus on privacy issues and applicable regulatory regimes
  • Provide practical and solution-focused legal advice and support on business matters in a fast-paced environment
  • Work cross-functionally with the legal team and other business units to advise on relevant issues to Lyra’s international services including advice concerning applicable data protection law, healthcare regulatory issues, compliance concerns, intellectual property protection, and impact on existing company contracts
  • Collaborate with internal and external experts to ensure that commercial agreements appropriately manage risk and comply with policies, laws, rules, regulations, and company objectives
  • Regularly update Lyra’s Records of Processing, in compliance with GDPR, according to the functional and practical evolution of our data processing activities
  • Provide SME guidance to commercial counsel to assist in negotiating provisions in Data Protection Agreements (DPAs) and advise on Standard Contractual Clause (SCC) requirements
  • Collaborate with privacy, regulatory and product teams when product changes are proposed to advise on Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) requirements; conduct DPIAs when legally required


  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and membership in a state bar with good standing
  • 6+ years legal experience in-house or at a law firm
  • Experience analyzing and advising on international regulatory issues in privacy, health care and/or other regulated areas
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
  • Experience leading projects, including collecting, distilling and summarizing issues from relevant stakeholders and moving projects forward
  • Experience providing pragmatic, business-oriented and consumer-centric guidance related to global data privacy laws, including GDPR (bonus if CIPP/E certified).
  • Ability to spot and resolve a variety of legal issues across multiple jurisdictions within the U.S. and abroad (e.g., payments, regulatory, commercial, IP).
  • Experience working in-house with a technology company and/or health care organization strongly preferred.
  • Willing and eager to take on new areas of law and function independently in a demanding fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities
  • Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace
  • Sense of humor 

This role is based in Burlingame, CA or remote.
