Staying ahead of emerging workplace trends and understanding how they might impact employee mental health
October 9, 2026
You have a medical plan. You have a dental plan, a vision plan. You also need a mental health plan if you want employees to feel their best and bring their best selves to work. It's all connected.-Vickie Carpeneti
As eBay marks 10 years partnering with Lyra Health, Vickie Carpeneti reflected on what it takes to support a global workforce in an increasingly complex world, and why mental health has become a core part of business performance, culture, and long-term resilience.
Mental health is foundational to performance
At eBay, mental health support is an essential part of helping employees feel their best and do their best work.
“Our business is connecting people and building communities to create economic opportunity for all. And the roles here are cognitively demanding. To power a world-class team and enable a high-performing culture, you have to support the physical, financial, and emotional well-being of your people and their families,” Vickie explains.
That philosophy shapes how eBay approaches care and belonging across the organization. By helping employees and their families access the support they need when challenges arise in their lives, eBay creates an environment where people feel supported and energized to perform at their best.
Supporting a global workforce requires local care
Supporting employees across 25+ countries brings a unique challenge: how do you create a mental health experience that feels equitable and relevant everywhere employees live and work?
“What we love about Lyra is that it’s consistent, and it’s a global benefit that feels local. We can offer one program, but the care employees receive feels specific to them, whether that’s resources in different languages or providers who share their background,” said Vickie.
That combination of global consistency and locally relevant care has helped drive stronger engagement, increasing participation outside of the U.S. tremendously compared to previous offerings with different vendors.
A decade of partnership shaped more than benefits
This year, eBay received Lyra’s Founding Customer Award at the annual Breakthrough conference, recognizing 10 years as Lyra’s first customer.
“Lyra has become a trusted partner that understands our strategy and the needs of eBayers and their families. The partnership has also helped us engage leaders in important conversations and provide training that has influenced how teams work, with employee well-being in mind,” Vickie shared.
Those efforts have helped shape a supportive workplace culture at eBay. And the impact is reflected in what Vickie hears directly from employees: "Employees are constantly coming up to me and saying, ‘Lyra has such an impact on me and my family and how I show up at work.’ When an employee comes to us with a concern and engages with Lyra, we know they’re in good hands.”
Staying ahead of what’s next with Lyra
The mental health landscape has evolved significantly over the past decade, as new technologies, changing ways of working, and evolving employee needs continue to reshape the workplace.
“One thing I really appreciate about Lyra is that they stay on top of emerging trends in mental health care. They've helped us stay ahead on neurodiversity, caregiver support, manager support, and kids’ mental health. As the needs of our employees and families continue to evolve, having a partner that can anticipate those needs and evolve with us is incredibly valuable,” said Vickie.
